STRAY - Stray ORIG Transatlantic LP TRA 216 (UK, Stereo, 1970)

Happy to present a lovely high-grade copy of Stray’s much-underrated, crisply produced 1970 debut, with a lovely fresh record and a great sharp, undamaged sleeve.

As most collectors will know, the intricate die-cut, non-laminated gatefold sleeve is a fragile affair (the front panel being a single sheet card affair) and is definitely VERY hard to find intact with no splits or tears between the letters of ‘STRAY’. Well the good news here is that the die cut has survived perfectly intact with NO joining of the letters! Every letter is as sharp as was at manufacture. There is a tiny, tiny bump to the tip of the ‘S’, but hardly worth mentioning. Not only this, but the rest of the sleeve is really lovely for a non-laminate - hardly any edge wear (very sharp edges!) next to no feathering and LOVELY SQUARE SPINE! Except for a few near invisible really small ones from the spine, the whole sleeve is COMPLETELY UNCREASED even on the delicate front panel! This is very rare for this 40 year old sleeve! There is NO writing anywhere, no splits nor tears nor scuffs nor stains! The only signs of age are some light corner rubs (hardly any) a very slight record impression to the front (hardly visible) and some minor toning and very light rubbing of the brilliant white front panel. Everything else is in great order for the serious collector and without a doubt this sleeve WOULD SIT PROUDLY IN ANY TOP GRADE PROG or GIMMICK SLEEVE COLLECTION! These unique designs were trying very hard to outdo each other during this period of record sleeve construction, particularly in the UK and this is a super example of the era! Must grade an absolutely GENUINE EX (Excellent), minimum!

The original white/purple Transatlantic labels show this vinyl has not had much attention at all. A beautiful pair which maintain full colour, with NO writing, stickers, residue, tears or foxing spots. One light spindle trace to one side, maybe two to the other. Fabulous labels.

The sharp medium to medium heavy vinyl is a great example which has nearly flawless audio, and equally good looks. The only minor blemishes away from full Mint are a thin hairline across the first track of Side 2 and two ultra light scuff lines one which spans the same side, BUT IS ULTRA LIGHT AND HAS ABSOLUTELY NO AFFECT ON THE AUDIO WHICH IS SUPERB AND UNHINDERED THROUGHOUT. Other than these slight blemishes this is a full shine, lovingly preserved disc. Grades a true EX- (Excellent Minus) but is really Mint- with three isolated faint lines. Has been carefully listened to and plays like new with NO audio nasties and barely any surface at all throughout.

THIS WILL NOT DISAPPOINT. It’s Stray’s rarest UK album, and it’s here in a lovely state, sleeve, labels and vinyl all more than satisfactory and well above average. No reserve.
