Description
Before 1977 punk really started up, there were a few odd singles and one compilation album, "Live at Max's Kansas City," and the highlight was the final cut, "Rocket USA" by an outfit called Suicide. A nervous keyboard drone, deliberately fake drum machine thumping at a meth pulse, and utter echo-swamped despairing dark yelped lyrics that were unlike anything at the time. The band never made it in the genre they actually started, but they truly influenced everybody.
This is the one album that feels like an attempt by a real record company to get the group on the map. Produced by Rik Ocasek of The Cars, it doesn't sound like The Cars--it sounds like a beautifully-recorded Suicide record. No question of selling out here, though it was really the only big chance they ever had, it's different from but every bit as uncompromised as their first album.
But, just like their first album, there was only the one 1980 pressing in the US of this, until a 2016 vinyl reissue (that had off-center holes apparently!)
Near-mint vinyl with slight inaudible paper scuffs. Free postage and insurance.
