Description
SUN # 269 WADE AND DICK THE COLLEGE KIDS - 78 RPM RECORD - BOP BOP BABY/DON'T NEED YOUR LOVING
You are bidding on an excellent example of a 1957 Sun Record out of Memphis, Tennessee. The legendary Sun label owned by Sam Phillips where Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash,Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins, Charlie Feathers, Billy Lee Riley, B.B. King and countless others walked across the threshold at 706 Union to make some killer recordings. Before Sam was knocking out Country and Rock-a-billy records he was listening to some great Gospel and Blues and whoever walked in off the street.
This is a great example from Wade Moore and Dick Penner! There is some nice guitar/vocal work on this one. Kind of a rockabilly/doowop release. I believe these gentlemen were students at North Texas State and wrote Ooby Dooby which helped kick off the career of Roy Orbison. If anyone has more info. on these artists I would love to hear it.
LABELS- Nearly Perfect, there is a small black line on the Don't Need You Love side as shown in the photo.. No tears, stickers or other distractions.
PLAYING SURFACES: VG+/VG+ Could grade higher but I'm being conservative. Very light surface noise. Some very light scratches. As with many Suns it plays well. No cracks, warps, labels or other distractions. Keep in mind that I'm a collector, not a grading expert. Some people would look at the labels and the surface and declare it a Mint minus but there are signs of very slight wear. This is a beautiful piece for the rockabilly collector or Sun Completist!
NO RESERVE and the starting bid is 99 cents! I will be listing a few other very nice Sun 78's records on the same terms within the next 24 Hrs. so check back! You tell me what they are worth. Sure would love to keep the whole collection, but if you saw the basement, garage and storage area you would tell me to downsize. Also have dreams of buying my daughter an early Gibson "A" style mandolin for her birthday so it's time to raise some funds!!! Some people told me I'm crazy for starting these scarce, nice pieces out so low. So be it. If the shoe fits...wear it!
I prefer to ship USPS priority mail but am flexible.
Please pay within 24 Hrs. of auctions end.
We will ship overseas but the buyer will pay all costs.
