Those with long memories may remember Sun Electric, the Berlin-based duo of Tom Thiel and Max Loderbauer (now best known for his work with Ricardo Villalobos). The pair released tons of inspired ambient, IDM and techno between 1989 and the early 2000s, before deciding to concentrate on solo work. Episodes, then, is something of a surprise comeback: a first album of fresh, non-archival material since 1999. Appearing on Belgium's admirable De:Tuned label, the six-track set of heady, beat-free ambience and atmospheric modular soundscapes brings to mind their single greatest previous release - sublime 1995 set 30.7.94 Live. We can think of no greater praise than that.
