Description
This is an auction for a very rare limited edition pressing of Sunn O)))'s "Monoliths and Dimensions" double LP on black vinyl only available on select 2009 tour dates. Sunn O))) is an ambient black metal/doom band that formed in 1999 taking the name from their beloved brand of amplifiers, Sunn O))), a small independent family business that was ultimately acquired by Fender (also the choice of The Velvet Underground,The Who and Hendrix as well as The Melvins, and Mountain). The name was also chosen as a play on the name of the band Earth being that "Sunn O)))" revolved around "Earth", founders of drone music that have worked with Sunn O))) on several occasions. This being Sunn O)))'s seventh, and possibly best studio album, is no exception featuring collaborations with Earth guitarist Dylan Carlson as well as Joe Preston of the Melvins/Thrones/High On Fire, Attila Csihar of Mayhem/Tormentor, Oren Ambarachi, the Australian guitarist that has worked with Sunn O))) on many prior releases, among others and as the band themselves claim, "the most musical piece we’ve done, and also the heaviest, powerful and most abstract set of chords we’ve laid to tape", which is attested with rave critical acclaim and praise from Pitchfork, Allmusic, Rock Sound, and Spin. This particular edition was only available on select Southern Lord "Blackened Music Series" shows which included dates with some of the best Heavy bands in underground music like Nadja, Shrinebuilder, Pig Destroyer, and others. The September 22nd show at the Brooklyn Masonic Temple with Eagle Twin, Earth, and Pelican was where this album was purchased, happening to be one of those particular shows on the "Blackened Music Series" tour, and showcasing one of the best performances I've seen by Sunn O))). This LP, like many other Southern Lord releases, is absolutely beautifully packaged coming in a heavyweight cardboard jacket containing two printed inner sleeves and an insert featuring lyrics and album credits, which is encased in a printed velum dust jacket much like that found on hardcover books, and inserted in a poly-bag. The packaging alone is just about enough to want to make you want this release with such concise packaging and exhibiting beautiful artwork and visuals by Seldon Hunt and Stepehn O' Malley(of Sunn O))) ). Also included in this auction is a limited, printed 5 x 7" Southern Lord cardboard hand-bill for the September 22nd show and a promo album from Boris of remixes of the track "Buzz In" from their 2008 album "Smile" which was given out at the show. This authentic and very hard to find album is an immaculately conceived and visually stunning essential for any Sunn O))) fan, vinyl collector, or those in appreciation of masterpiece musical works. If you missed Sunn O))) this year on tour, you also missed your chance to grab this masterpiece, so get it now as it's only going to go up in value from here.
