SUNRISE Folk Prog Rock, 1972 UNRELEASED WHITE LABEL LP

Sunrise.

Original UK pressed white label test pressing housed in plain sleeve with typed A&M sticker to top corner.

The sticker is dated 13th June 1972, but no date has been filled in next to "tentative UK release date".

The run offs/dead wax feature the catalogue number SAM 100 and A1/B1 matrix suffixes.

I can find nothing out about this band at all, and this does appear to never have been commercially released. The SAM catalogue number is a bit of a mystery, and certainly not one I recognise from the A&M issues of the period.

Music perhaps best described as Pastoral Prog. Some nice harmony singing at times, and some nice guitar work.

There is one clue to work with. I acquired this as part of a small collecton of white labels and acetates. Many of these are by Paul Travis. He was the mainstay of Travis, who were a 1970's Prog Rock band. (Paul Travis then recorded a solo album under his own name before forming Liar.) The 1973 LP Travis was not only released on A&M Records, but also features a track called "Flagstone Path".

So there is a possibility that this Sunrise release is perhaps an earlier incarnation of Travis, or somehow connected.

Vinyl in EX condition. Just a very few light spider trail marks visible at centre spindle areas. Surfaces still have a high gloss, and display just a few light and superficial hairline sleeve removal scuffs. There are no deep scratches or digs.

Playback is clean, and the recorded sound is really bright and punchy. A little light crackle evident at run ins of both sides, but with no discernible marks causing this, and probably due to handling residue at edges.

Labels are clean and unmarked both sides. There are no penned or stamped marks.

Plain white card outer sleeve is broadly clean, although with some light ringwear and edge darkening, including to the sticker at top. This has the band name, date and tracks typed to it.

A Note On Grading:

Note that audio grading is subjective and based on sensitivity of equipment used for playback. In this instance playback has been tested on a vintage Technics Quartz Direct Drive SL1700 MKII turntable with Shure cartridge, Technics SU-C 03 amp and Technics SB-F2 Linear Phase speakers.

Also note that I generally do not clean vinyl unless so noted. Most vinyl will show improved playback quality with your preferred cleaning method, but I leave this to the prospective buyer, as controversy still surrounds the ideal method of cleaning vinyl.
