PLEASE READ BEFORE BIDDING: Please read the entire auction listing, including shipping costs, before writing to ask a question. OUR GOAL IS CUSTOMER SATISFACTION. In the unlikely instance that you feel the need to open a resolution dispute before working with us, you will immediately be blocked from any further chance to acquire the rare music we present each and every week. Payment is required within seven days. We mail all paid items ONE WEEK after auctions end. Please keep in mind our listings are time consuming in detail and we are often traveling to find these gems, which at times delays the delivery schedule by a day or two. We ALWAYS process and ship every paid order. We have no control over parcels once they are mailed from our local Post Office.Overseas mail to some countries (Italy, Russia, France, in particular) has became very slow. Opening a dispute for slow mail is unacceptable and will result in blocking the bidder. We work hard to provide excellent service as is represented by our 8000 plus positive feedback. We use a VPI machine and thoroughly clean all records. Each order is carefully packaged by removing the LP from the jacket to avoid seam splits, use of 3 ml plastic cover sleeves over each LP and jacket, cardboard pad inserts, and placed in sturdy record mailers for safe delivery. We take Customer Service seriously, and want you to be satisfied. SUPER RARE ... Original 1968 first pressing of an underground beatrock/prog/poprock hipster band with some dynamite fuzzed psych moments, and other moments like the first '67 Procol Harum LP having Hammond organ leads in dreary somber tones...sort of '67 Procol Harum meets the Blackbirds (a German band with two rated LPs...similar to P.Harum 1st)
Given a chance to record an album in 1968, the cleverly titled (The Black Snakes) "Les Serpents Noirs" featured a mixture of guitarist Charlier-penned originals and material written by then 19 year old singer Gilbert Lerat. While the band photo on the cover gave you the impression these guys were a crew inspired by Sgt Pepper, for the most part their paisley jackets were about as psychedelic as it get. Kicked along by some nice fuzz guitar the oddly titled 'Keep Your Hands Quiet' actually sports an outright psych feel along with 'Sixty Nine' and 'Psychy Beat' includes psych influences before mutating into more conventional Stax-styled jams. Frankie Charlier also deserves notice for turning in a killer fuzz guitar solo at the end of 'Sixty Nine'. The rest of the album was heavily geared towards Procol Harum moody ballads ('Porquoi?', 'Sourire a l'amour'', and 'Mon Seul Amour'). Most of the twelve tracks are sung in French, but the Black Snakes show some versatility with a couple of English performances. 'Come On' is a nice rocker while the previously mentioned 'Keep Your Hands Quiet' was easily the standout performance. The singer has a surprisingly nice voice that is capable of powering the band through the ballad 'Dany' which is beyond help, as well as the more up tempo numbers. The English vocals may are a little fractured, but the gruff delivery is cool. The rest of the band are also pretty good; All told it is one of those LPs that may not normally have a great deal of appeal to an Anglo listener, but perhaps because it is different, it has a unique charm.
