My oh my!!!
If you are a collector of northern soul or specifically look for Detroit mid-60s nuggets, this is a solid Holy Grail.
Super hot, VERY rare record in truly great shape!
Here we have Stewart Ames on J&W Records in 1964, #JW-1000, King for a Day backed with Angelina, Oh Angelina. Yep - it is a super rare one indeed, and this one is in primo shape. From the lovely Detroit, mid-60s vocal group-screamers editions, this record is very pure, driving RNB...raw soul, at its very finest.
The labels are showing some slight age - there is definitely some ring wear and fading on them. There is a red pencil line on the King for a Day side too - clearly visible in the pictures. VG to VG+ on the labels - beyond what I mentioned and what you can see clearly here, they are perfect. No rips, no water damage or excessive gunge, no small tears. Just some aging, and that darned pencil ring.
The wax is beautiful - I can tilt it to see a couple super small age scuffs on each side, but nothing that affects the play at all - nothing deep. VG+ on the vinyl at least - the sound, however is a pure VG++ or better - it sounds incredible for its age. No major pops/skips - nothing to detract from the record and the power of Stewart Ames' vocal delivery. King For a Day is a mid-tempo to a slower beat, full orchestra - -but it is all about Sterwart Ames' vocal range. He is hitting the high register like he owns it - especially on the fade out. Some great vocal runs on this one. For me, the money shot is on the B side - Angelina, Oh Angelina has the stop-shuffle dance beat of a party record, and a vocal approach that starts out pretty manic, and never calms down. A very short guitar solo, and then Stewart Ames rips apart a few more octaves with ease...sing-along, and just groovy as they come here. I have a hard time letting this side go - it is a smasher. The drums sound great, too - there is nothing not to love here.
Good luck to you on scoring this rare one - it is what you are searching for in Detroit-based Northern Soul...this is a great little record.

Had someone ask for a playing sample, and I put one on YouTube - meant to show the quality of the record, not make it sound good, sorry. It's sounds good all on its own. But dig:
