In the unlikely instance that you feel the need to open a resolution dispute before working with us, you will immediately be blocked from any further chance to acquire the rare music we present each and every week. Payment is required within five days. We mail all paid items ONE WEEK after auctions end. Please keep in mind our listings are time consuming in detail and we are often traveling to find these gems, which at times delays the delivery schedule by a day or two. We ALWAYS process and ship every paid order. We have no control over parcels once they are mailed from our local Post Office.Overseas mail to some countries (Italy, Russia, France, in particular) has became very slow. Opening a dispute for slow mail is unacceptable and will result in blocking the bidder. We work hard to provide excellent service as is represented by our 8000 plus positive feedback. We use a VPI machine and thoroughly clean all records. Each order is carefully packaged by removing the LP from the jacket to avoid seam splits, use of 3 ml plastic cover sleeves over each LP and jacket, cardboard pad inserts, and placed in sturdy record mailers for safe delivery. We take Customer Service seriously, and want you to be satisfied. Dylan's first album at age 20 = recorded 49 years ago!
"Bob Dylan" is Dylan’s first album, and probably the most underrated. It is a stunningly beautiful piece of music – very simple, tight, touching, rough, bitter, funny and, above all, dylan-esque.
Dylan is known for being an outstanding poet and a brilliant song-writer which is probably why people tend to overlook this album or dismiss it as unimportant - it consists mostly of covers of old folk and blues pieces. Only two of the thirteen tracks are his own – ‘Talkin’ New York’, a song that matches the other well-chosen pieces in both mood and quality, and ‘Song To Woody’, a touching tribute to the folk legend Woody Guthrie. Neither has the elaborated, philosophical lyrics Dylan is so famous for (Although they are still pretty damn good, at least in this opinion – take ‘People goin’ down to the ground/ Buidings goin’ up to the sky’ as description of New York for example), and that means this album is often looked upon as, well, less worthy in a way.
Dylan’s genius has given us so many excellent and mind-blowing songs, none (or few) of which are on here, and that means it can’t possibly compete with other albums of his. That’s right, of course, but this album’s musical quality makes it as good an album to listen to as any other masterpiece of his.
The songs vary from bright to depressing, and while Dylan sounds like he has fun in some of them (take ‘Freight Train Blues’ for example), he also manages to create the feeling of tragic in others. Dylan follows few rules here – he does weird things with his (weird) voice in weird places, he even meddles with the rhythm, and it sounds GOOD! It sounds free, uncalculated and emotional, like all music should.
The album includes Dylan’s version of ‘House Of The Rising Sun’, a traditional folk song that gained popularity thanks to ‘The Animals’ cover of it. Compared to their version, Dylan’s is a lot more depressing and has a great deal more feeling. Dylan also doesn’t change the original lyrics (he sings ‘It’s been the ruin of many poor girls…’) which means the story keeps its original meaning.
‘Bob Dylan’ is remarkable for it’s intensity. There’s not one boring moment throughout the album, and Dylan doesn’t sound self-conscious or inexperienced (something you’d expect from a guy of 20 on his first record). This album seems more ‘love it or hate it’ somehow than other stuff of his. To people who only have a ‘Best Of’ of Dylan’s: you’ll be surprised...
Some people might think this is just a bunch of covers by Dylan singing other people’s songs. But...the way Dylan does them, the songs are all his, and who cares that other people wrote them first.

The pre-release (promotional) 1962 Lp is actually over 50 years old. Back in 1962 Dylan was totally unknown outside of his little Greenwich Village club following. Signed by Columbia Records, the initial release bore little expectance the artist would be a big seller. The album didn't sell well and with not many copies being pressed, far less "six eye" label first printings have survived. The pre-release promo was issued in micro quantity with intent to promote the artist. At the time, being being far down Columbia Records ladder of importance, little promotional effort was given to the unknown Bob Dylan, thus LP promotional copies were limited to very few in regard to the kind of fanfare a big star at the label would receive. All said, 50+ years later, this pre-release promotional is truly an extinct artifact in any condition. To coin one of our fellow sellers, it's "INSANELY RARE" and should be regarded as the ultimate Dylan trophy.
Additional condition notes... With more time allowed play graded the entire Lp listening carefully. The proud owner will find both sides play exceptionally well with all things considered. There is only light passive surface below the music level. Not having the kinds of loud pops and ticks that distract listening enjoyment. Also, both six eye labels have "promotional Not For Sale" text ... side one has repaired label sticker removal tear (see label photo #2) ... also the back cover (see photo) is relatively clean (VG+) for being white (& black) and over 50+ years old.
