Description

What I've learned about this record, the Average White Band played and released an album called, "live at Montreux," but before that album was released certain people were sent pressings of that historic concert in Switzerland, with special edited and shortened versions of three selections recorded live during that concert. They were only sent to a handful of music and program directors, (I think deadwax has 4/20 written on it, which makes me think only 20 were pressed)  side one is the classic AWB "PICK UP THE  PIECES" (instrumental 6:50) feat Sonny Fortune (Alto sax)  and Michael Brecker (tenor sax)  side two contains first "BAHIA" instrumental 4:15(horn section Brazilian samba with AWB and percussion with solos by Randy Becker (trumpet) and Richard Tee (piano) number two on side two is "EVERYTHING MUST CHANGE" (vocal) 4:15  the accompanying letter from the desk of Atlantic Studios reads, "this beautiful ballad gets a soulful reading by the incomparable Ben E. King and the AWB member Hamish Stuart. The group LUTHER did the background vocals. Watch for a super soulful tenor sax solo by Dick Morrissey." This album was sent out before the two record set with the name "The Atlantic Family live at Montreux," which would be sent out with the rest of the selections and original long versions. I have never owned a piece of music history like this and AWB fans might be interested in the fact that I cannot find recordings of these versions of the listed music anywhere. For me this is really cool because not only is it an insider piece of music but it comes with a letter from Arif Mardin. As I learn more about the Montreux music festival and the other bands that have played there I become more convinced that this is a piece of music history.
