OK, here's something that's only come up for sale on here a few times in the last few years.
Courtesy of Todd Clark and the New Gods (the Eyes on stage) and released in 1977 (200 were pressed according to my research!) on World Theatre records. This is the original pressing, not the repressing that followed.
Julian Cope considers this a 'true psychedelic masterpiece'. Check google for his review.
If you've gotten this far I suspect you know what this is.
Track Listing:
Side One
- Origin (7.22)
- Visions of My World (2.26)
- Strange Forces (3.01)
- Core (2.34)
- Phosphorescent Is The Chamber (6.39)
- Within The Zodiac Zone (4.32)
- Last Day As A Whole Person (2.27)
- A Dozen Eggs (4.28)
- Brain And Spinal Column (8.02)
I have play graded the entire record and can confirm: this is the closest I will likely ever come to taking acid. I remember being introduced to Zappa in 7th grade and thinking Suzy Creamcheese was strange. Well, this album is on another level entirely.
Condition:
The outer sleeve is in what I consider to be very good condition. Front and back are still shiny. There is some rubbing wear here and there but no ring wear. No names written anywhere. No water damage or stains. The corners are good. There is some wear to the side and bottom spines, with more wear to the top spine, mostly dents and one torn spot about 3/16".
The original paper sleeve is intact.
The original press photo of the band is in place, and it has some finger creases from being looked at and could be cleaned up a bit. It's in pretty good shape.
The vinyl:
The labels are very good, with some faint spindle marks, one small scuff patch on one side, and a white stripe on side two that looks like a printing issue to me.
The album itself: I cleaned this twice on my Nitty Gritty pro double sided cleaning/vacuuming record cleaning machine. The vinyl is clear and bright, free of easily visible scratches. It does have some very slight marks that you have to hold just right to see. I would consider it in very good plus condition. Under super bright lights and at the right angle you can see the marks from the sleeve. There are pressing dimples here and there on both sides - probably what you get for having 200 copies pressed at a small plant back at that time.
Even better: I have play graded the entire album. None of what I have described above was audible on my system (Pro-Ject/Ortofon/tubes/horns) and the vinyl was very quiet and largely free of clicks and pops. Like I said, there are no scratches other than super fine ones and I couldn't hear any effects. The sound is good, probably again about the fidelity that you would expect considering the recording and production values that Tom had to work with. It's not bright like a modern recording but does have a nice crunchy warmth to my ears.
I will include a MoFi inner sleeve and new poly outer sleeve.
Now for the details:
Ask questions if you have them. I can post or send more photos if you'd like to see them.
Continental USA bidders only.
Buyer to pay all actual shipping costs. Due to the value of this LP, I will ONLY send this via a method that involves and includes insurance, tracking, delivery confirmation, and a required signature of the buyer for receipt.
That said, I will ship either USPS, UPS, or FedEX - it's up to the buyer - and you need to consider how this will be received so that you can sign for the package. This will protect everyone.
Again, ignore the ebay shipping calculator as it will NOT apply to this auction. We will determine shipping method and costs once the auction is over.
The LP will be packed double boxed to ensure safe arrival. I do not charge for handling or packing.
No warranties, no guarantees, and no returns.
Auction starts at $200 (less than half of the value/selling price of past auctions) with a buy it now price of $450.
Buyer to contact me within 48 hours of auction end to discuss shipping and delivery and final shipping price. I am being picky and careful about this for both of our benefits!
Thanks very much, good luck!
And again, please ignore the ebay shipping calculator. We'll work that out after the auction ends, you pick your shipper, and I pack the item and receive payment for the actual shipping costs determined at that time.
Thank you again!
