Here we have a very fine example of the Akai 1720L 4-track, 2-speed, stereophonic tape recorder.  And this wonderful and somewhat rare machine is in magnificent condition and first class working order.

In fact, this particular tape recorder has been serviced very recently by one of the UK’s leading ‘reel to reel’ specialists, Geoff Kremmer of Servicesound (see www.servicesound.com) and he has provided me with a six months warranty which IS transferable to the successful bidder, so please bid with total confidence.  The heads are in outstanding condition with no real sign of any wear and tear and all functions operate quietly, smoothly and exactly as they were designed to.

Unusually, for such a good quality machine, this tape recorder can be used totally as a ‘stand alone’ machine – it has a built amplifier and stereo speakers from which sound of remarkable clarity and quality is achieved.  Additionally of course, the machine can be hooked up to your stereo system with normal ‘phono’ leads.  (There is also a ‘DIN’ lead socket).  The tape recorder comes within a tidy black case and all clips and fastenings are in an unbroken state and operate properly.

As you will see from the final picture below (which shows some of the machines that I have in daily use) I am a serious collector of quality reel-to-reel machines and I am a big fan of Akai machines.  The results achieved using good quality tape and the fast recording speed of 7.5 IPS are quite simply stunning.  (If you have any doubts and live close enough, you are welcome to visit my home and enjoy a demonstration, once you have made a serious bid).

THE SMART, BLACK SPOOLS SHOWN IN THE PHOTOGRAPH ARE INCLUDED IN THE SALE.  ONE IS FULL OF BLANK, GOOD QUALITY, MAGNETIC RECORDING TAPE, THE OTHER IS THE MATCHING ‘TAKE-UP’ SPOOL.

Everyone who comes to my home admires this machine, not only for its stunning good looks, but also for the sound quality, which is almost breath taking.   This tape recorder of course, operates faultlessly.  The VU meters give accurate readings and all controls operate smoothly and effectively.

THIS MACHINE CAN OPERATE EITHER VERTICALLY OR HORIZONTALLY AND HAS THE MUCH FAVOURED ‘SPRUNG SPOOL RETAINERS’ WHICH DISPENSE WITH THE NEED FOR THE MORE CUMBERSOME RUBBER ‘PUCKS’, WHICH TEND TO FALL OFF AND GET LOST.
