FOLLOW THE RULES
In 1952 Johnny Ace recorded two songs for the well known Memphis based SUN label, both songs were never issued and are today considered "lost". After that he began recording for Don Robey's Duke records out of Houston Texas. "My Song" is the 1952 debut single by Johnny Ace. Backed by The Beale Streeters, "My Song" was the first of three number one's on the US Billboard R&B chart for Johnny Ace.
Aretha Franklin released a version of the song that reached number 10 on the U.S. R&B chart and number 31 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1968
In 1954 he recorded a song written by Robey and Ferdinand Washington called "Pledging my love". On Christmas eve of that year, while on a promotional tour of concerts, Johnny was playing Russian Roulette backstage at the City Auditorium in Houston, and accidently shot himself. He died the next day (Christmas day) and that song went on to become one of the biggest top hits of 1955, and he became a legend.
