Description

Winners of the 18 band
SURF BATTLE (1963)

There was a big contest to identify the top surf band in the Los Angeles area in the spring of 1963, and 18 bands got into the competition.  In the end, the winners were two bands, one from the Friday night contest (The Rhythm Kings) and another from Saturday night (Dave Meyers & The Surftones).

We’re told that the Rhythm Kings (led by Al Garcia) are a non-sufing group of guys who are Mexican and Pillipino decendants who dig the surf sounds and boss soul. Dave Meyers is fro Laguna Beach and actually is an ardent surfer when he’s not in college.

This is a GNP Crescendo original pressing GNP 85 and even has the original glassine inner sleeve.
