Jazz Side 1 - Track 1. Nica's Dream Side 1 - Track 2. Avenue Side 2 - Track 1. Greensleeves Side 2 - Track 2. Lamento Side 2 - Track 3. Sheila's Song

Japanese bassist Isao Suzuki sits at the centre of this cooly authoritative 70s session, now returning as part of Victor's Spin This Now! reissue series. Recorded during a period when Suzuki was increasingly visible beyond Japan, the record places his piccolo bass in close dialogue with an international cast and includes Hank Jones and Roy Haynes who craft a set that feels both deliberate and unhurried. 'Nica's Dream' opens with calm assurance, Suzuki's tone guiding the group with quiet authority. 'Avenue' and 'Lamento' deepen the mood, favouring space and balance, while 'Greensleeves' and 'Sheila's Song' unfold with restraint and poise. It's a record built on listening that still holds its ground decades on.
