Label Conditions: Both very clean, fresh and attractive with only light, fine and very faint spindle marks and no wear around the hole area.

Mode / Speed: Stereo / 33.3 rpm.

Warps: Assume all records I offer have no warping of any significance and all tracking is easy and effortless and should play on all turntables and even ‘budget’ decks.

Weight of this Record: 140 grams. A very good solid weight.

Country of Manufacture: England.

Rarity: Scarce: a commercial non-starter and seldom seen. This album very much in the Vertigo Swirl era mode with a cover in an almost identical format with the same style credits. The music uncommercial and would have been very much at home on Vertigo. This probably sold as many copies as most the very poor selling issues on that better known label, Trend being very small indeed.

Brief Info: Something of a ‘lost’ obscurity – Swegas first album was not even released. Undaunted, they made this one issued on the small Trend label – it virtually sunk without trace. A large band that played a heavy progressive jazz-rock – even heavier than early Chicago Transit Authority and Blood, Sweat and Tears. It has spectacular cover artwork very much in the Vertigo mould – this one does have a sticker tear on the front – but the record itself it superb and plays nigh-on perfectly. Not an album you will see or hear often, this being my very first, clearly a talented band, but alas never to find their market.

Cover Grade and Format: VERY GOOD: with a moderate sticker pull tear on the front. An unlaminated gatefold format with matt smooth surfaces. Printed and made in England by Howards.

Cover Front: The main issue on this rare cover is a sticker pull mark – yes, I could have easily put a fake sticker over it to cover it up, but I do not work that way. What you see is what you get, and many covers like this had price stickers attached, often hastily removed and hey presto – the surface was pulled. A little minor edge wear is seen as well as gentle rub or minor marks, but hardly any creasing. Rich colour is retained and the sticker issue apart, still in very fine condition overall.

Cover Back: Similar to the front minus the sticker mark.

Cover Inner Gatefold: A few small surface chips and minor marks, but not a great deal else to fault.

Top Edges: Patchy, mainly quite light rubbing.

Bottom Edges: More consistent moderate rubbing.

Right Edge(s), and Type: The front is tucked and folded giving a neat finish, any rubbing here is very light. The back opening inside is very sharp, the outside has thickened a little near the bottom, all edges are guaranteed untrimmed.

Spine and Text: Solid, straight with minimal compression and folded square, so the edges meet up very closely together and parallel. Some quite light patchy rubbing but most-all of the text is present with little wear at all – again this Trend spine looks very ‘Vertigo’ in design.

Corners: The corners all have moderate rubbing with fine shape retained, there are NO tip-ins anywhere on the cover.

Cover Summary: A rare cover and somewhat spectacular, clearly not for the more discerning collector with a sticker tear and edge and corner rubbing. But the record itself more than compensates, and this is one that will not show up often. So if the music is of more value than the packaging, this still delivers.

The Inner Sleeve: NEAR EXCELLENT: the original Polydor-style inner has moderate aged with some darkening of the edges. But not damage with two very crisp and neat window circles, clear lining, hardly any creasing and all edges unsplit with no repairs. This date-coded 12 70 (December 1970).

Vinyl Condition/Visual Grading: NEAR EXCELLENT: side one better at least excellent. A fine visual copy that is very clean, shiny, intense black and very solidly pressed. A copy very modestly played on all the evidence with just a few light surface marks mostly on side two that have NO sound. Visually a splendid record that should please many collectors, but not the perfectionists.

Album Played For Grading: Yes. [I play ALL records I offer before submitting to Ebay, also the record is played in its entirety unless clearly stated otherwise. I do NOT play snippets or joining grooves to check for sound quality and quietness – I play from the beginning to end via clinically revealing B&W speakers that include the legendary tweeter from their awesome Nautilus range that reveals every blemish or minuscule sound present on any record.]

Sound Quality and Audio Grading: This somewhat ‘lost’ record plays above it’s fine visual grading with barely anything to fault. Strong, distortion-free sound, all frequencies are sharp and clear - sound quality is very high with a wide dynamic range and very detailed sound. Any surface sounds are minimal indeed and no pops or significant clicks were noted and this is an exceptional clean pressing. An album of heavy rasping horns which all remain focused, precise and sharp. A real test for any vintage vinyl, these jazzy albums often the most susceptible for groovewear from heavy tracking vintage record players. Few copies will outperform this very early pressing I feel sure. Nothing spoilt my pleasure when play-grading this impressive sounding record, the few gentle and non-penetrating surface marks are ignored and this offers top quality sound. Not a copy for the visual perfectionist but if the music is the most important factor – this delivers.

The record’s cover will be placed within a BRAND NEW soft protective sleeve and the actual record will be professionally cleaned on my new VPI-17 Pro vacuum system to give ultimate clean grooves and playing surfaces and the best possible looks and ultimate sound quality. You will NOT get tired, dull looking, dust infested records inside worn and foggy covers with tatty inners from this seller and that’s a promise and guarantee. All records are posted in professional boxes (NOT Mailers, these do not offer any real protection). The record(s) are REMOVED from their main cover to avoid edge splits and placed within a brand new polylined inner. The record’s original inner will be included if available. The boxes are then reinforced with at least TWO, ULTRA THICK stiffeners for maximum extra protection – these are FOUR TIMES thicker than commercial stiffeners and are custom-made for oneadayrecords. Really rare and expensive albums will even be Double Boxed if deemed necessary and possible. When larger boxes are used, the thick record and stiffener ‘sandwich’ is then thickly embedded into bubble-wrap to bulk out the record inside the box to centre the item inside to reduce the risk of damage still further. SOME GENERAL GUIDES TO WEAR AND CONDITIONS TO HELP YOU DECIDE

My Use of Description Terminology: Surface Marks = Superficial, usually light marks, hairlines or light scuffs that rarely sound. Scratch = a needle mark that goes below the record’s surface, some will sound, some will not, my play-grade will inform. Original = a record that has been pressed with the first label design which does NOT necessarily mean a very first pressed record. First Pressing = A record that I believe or know to be a genuine very first pressed record. I do not claim to always know for sure, and that’s why I state the stamper and matrix numbers if at all possible, for those who claim to know what they all mean, the information is there for the collector to decide. I prefer to use terms like ‘Early Copy’ rather than ‘First Pressing’ if I am not totally sure. Surface Sound = Mild, light sound, usually light crackle or similar. Distortion = Break up of the actual sound caused by groove wear or damage from a chipped stylus – the most undesirable form of unwanted sound, vintage mono records were the most prone to this happening but not exclusively so. The symptoms of distortion are high frequency clipping, moderate constant crackle or an echo type sound quality. Violin, piano and vocals are most prone to groove-wear distortion. Feathering = Fraying or softening of the entry edge of a cover. Covers with feathered entrance edges are more likely to have had the actual record inserted and removed more than a non-feathered, sharp-edged cover which are always far more attractive. Set Off, actually a printer’s term for dark ink leaving mild residue on pale or white ink when rested upon. e.g. when a gatefold cover has black ink closed against white, this can leave some black residue on the pale area – this is mostly unavoidable or course.

The Argument for Vinyl Original sound and mix (mono mixes are rarely available on CD), high quality sound on clean copies (played on a hi-end dedicated analogue system – breathtaking sound!), beautiful, large format covers, artwork, inserts and even full size posters etc; huge investment potential, and the pleasure of owning ‘the real thing’.
