Description

SXL 2003 BEETHOVEN 5 Ansermet OSR Decca WBG ED1 BLUE BACK SLEEVE

Beethoven, Symphony No.5 / Egmont Overture.

Ernest Ansermet conducting L'Orchestre de la Suisse Romande.

Original issue UK pressed Decca Records stereo LP, SXL 2003.

Earliest issue with inset groove and "Original Recording" wording at 12 o'clock position.

1E/1E matrix suffixes.

Vinyl in strong EX condition. A few spider trail marks visible around the centre spindle areas but only lightly so. Labels have no wear and are undefaced and with a good lustre still.

Playing surfaces still have a very high gloss. Two or three visible non-sounding white scuff marks, mainly to side two, else surfaces are near mint. Appears a very carefully handled and played LP.

Playback has been tested and is clean and bright throughout. Aside from a cursory wipe with a lint-free cloth I have made no attempt to clean the LP and there is some very occasional and expected dust crackle here and there. There are no clicks or ticks and the LP still has a rich and sonorous Decca bloom, free of groove damage or distortion.

Note that the photo of the vinyl shows some dark patching which is merely a reflection of overhanging foliage (photo taken outdoors).

Original FFSS inner sleeve is present and EX. No splits, creasing, marks or browning.

External sleeve is earliest variant flimsy with blue border to rear. This has survived very well and has to grade at least VG plus. Still has an overall good sheen and free of noticeable wear. Some minor rubbing and a few small creases near entry side. Tips gently rubbed, the occasional whitening chipping to edges here and there. No heavy edge wear, fraying or seam splitting however. Laminate peeling a little at entry side, with some laminate loss to rear panel next to entry side. This is neat and tidy however, and not overly obtrusive.

All in all a very nicely preserved example of this very early issue.
