SXL 2026 WBGv Ed1 Mendelssohn Bruch VIOLIN CAMPOLI
This is one of a number of vinyl records from the 1950’s & 60’s listed this week which we no longer listen to. Little played, the records are still in very good condition, the covers sometimes less so. Gradings are based on the “Record Collector Magazine's Guide” set out in the eBay Guides together with notes about condition added. Extracts from the Gramophone Magazine review written at the time of the record’s release are included where these are available.RECORD GRADING
VERY GOOD
This record plays very well although both surfaces have visible sleeve rubbing marks and some feint hairlines. None of these are of the damaging variety, as listening to the record confirms. The surface marks produce very little unwanted sounds, just light ticks in the background, occasionally briefly repetitive, and a very few single light pops.
Many of these sounds are probably caused by dust rather than by the surface marks. The record does need a clean to bring out the best in it but is very enjoyable to listen to as it is, particularly the very beautiful playing of Campoli.
COVER GRADING
VERY GOOD
The cover is in very good condition. All four corners are still square and without damage. There is just a little soiling to the front opening where the laminate has not been applied right up to the edge of the card, a fault frequently seen on Decca covers. There is a little scuffing at the very edges of the front face but, otherwise, it is clean with the laminate intact. The record ring is just visible.
The back is a little discoloured and the record ring can be seen here too. As on the front, the edges where the laminate has not been completely applied are a little soiled. There are two marks on the back which can be clearly seen in the photograph.
The original blue “FFSS” inner sleeve is clean and undamaged, just a little creased on the bottom corners.
This is a record which plays much better than it looks and represents a great opportunity to acquire a copy of this much praised, rarely available recording.
