Wagner: Solti: VP - Das Rheingold
(Decca SXL 2101-3 UK 3 LP Box Set 1959)
This is a 1959 UK original ED1 Stereo 3 LP box set pressing. It has a front laminated hard outer box which has gold lettering on the spine. It comes complete with all 3 original polythene-lined company "Stereophonic" inner sleeves. It also comes complete with two booklets. One is a smaller sized libretto. This also has a fold-out "principal themes" sheet music which is attached to the back page. & small booklet. The second 12" booklet has all the information on the recordings & performers. This has a date stamp of "59.2" printed on the back page. This indicates that it was printed in February 1959.
The records have wide band ED1 Decca labels which are grooved also. They all have the "Original Recordings By" text. The records have 1st press -4G/ -4G/ -4G/ -5G/ -4G/ -5G matrix stampers. The all have the earliest mother stamper 1. It is also worth noting that Side 1 & Side 6 are on one LP. Side 2 & Side 5 are on one LP, & Side 3 & Side 4 are on one LP.
This is a genuine 1959 UK 1st pressing. These are not that common.
Box: There is some light to mild rubbing wear in a few places. There are no split seams. Overall a clean & tidy copy. VG++ condition.
Vinyl 1: There are some very light sleeve rubs which can be seen under a strong light. There are also some minor, & very light, polythene bag marks in a few areas. There is a minor warp too. It does not affect play at all. VG+ condition. Looks Very Near EX! The labels are very clean & show minimal spindle wear. Plays Excellently overall. Very well indeed. The inner sleeve is in VG+ condition.

The smaller sized libretto is in VG+ condition. There is a tiny 5 mm tear at one side of the front cover page. There is some fading to the pages & some finger marks on a few pages. The fold-out page, that is attached to the back page, is in very nice condition. The libretto is totally complete.
The information booklet has some moderate foxing on the front & back cover pages. The centre pages have come loose at one staple only. There are some handling marks too. It is in VG- condition. It is totally complete
Grading adheres to “Record Collector” specifications. I shall use good quality packaging (proper vinyl mailers & two card dividers).
