Description
Superb condition copy of this rare 1960 release on Decca Records (SXL 2224) with its original Wide Band & Grooved label design with "Original Recording By..." rim text - ED1. Kirsten Flagstad sings Mahler's song cycles "Kindertotenlieder" and "Lieder eines Fahrenden Gesellen" with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Sir Adrian Boult.
Condition is superb. The sleeve is immaculate ; clean and crisp with no tears, creasing or seam splits. The laminate is perfectly intact and the rear sleeve is only slightly discoloured. A previous owner has written reminders of his preferred settings for bass, treble and colume in blue biro at the bottom right corner of the rear sleeve but othersiwe the sleeve is almost as new.
The vinyl is also in virtually mint condition with no scratches, scuffs or abrasions. Playback is unaffected by any ticks, clicks or crackles; surface noise is extremely low and there is no distortion and no jumps or skips.
These are superb performances. I hesitate to use the word "definitive" but I've certainly never heard performances to better these.
