SXL Unreleased Test Pressings of WAGNER - KEILBERTH +++
2 x VERY RARE DECCA STEREO 1st UK TPS **Flying Dutchman
WAGNER - DER FLIEGENDE HOLLANDERWow. Here is a massive rarity.
The legendary 1955 Bayreuth Festival recordings were made in Stereo but only received a mono issue in 1956 (LXT 5150 - 5152). Not until much later did they have a Stereo release in 1973 on Decca Eclipse (ECS 665 - 667) and only in 1978 were issued true Stereo recordings (D97D 3). The stampers used for this were ZAL stampers but with 2G/6G, 2G/4G & 3G/4G.
Here we have two sides from the original 1M cut. ZAL 2921-1M & ZAL 2922-1M. As you can see from the labels they had been assigned an OS catalogue number for a UK Decca/London export planned release. These are both grooved label test pressings and are the earliest Stereo test pressings made of this benchmark recording which would have been part of the SXL box if it had ever been released. Almost certainly the only two surviving Stereo discs because as you know they were only ever pressed in miniscule quantity and items that didn't make the catalogue were nearly always scrapped.
Any other information on these discs would be much appreciated to pass on to their future owner. These are of library/archive significance so I expect a lot of interest.
Excellent and highly sought after recordings featuring HERMANN UHDE, ASTRID VARNAY, LUDWIG WEBER, RUDOLF LUSIG, ELISABETH SCHARTEL, JOSEF TRAXEL with the Bayreuth Festival Orchestra & Chorus conducted by JOSEPH KEILBERTH. Decca London label 1st UK Test Pressings.
CAT. NO. ????????? (SXL) ??????? on London/Decca Records
Plain sleeve. The vinyl is in excellent condition - both discs are in great shape with minor sleeve removal marks and a couple of faint wispy marks. They do both play with some surface noise but don't spoil the enjoyment of this superb recording.
For international bidders I accept PAYPAL. For U.K bidders I also accept personal cheques but y'all know how long they take to clear. All monies must be received within 10 days. I do always send with proof of postage. Large shipments upto 50kg available. Any more questions just email me.
