The Madcap Laughs is the debut solo album by British singer-songwriter Syd Barrett. It was recorded after Barrett had left Pink Floyd in April 1968. The album had a chequered recording history, with work beginning in mid-1968, but the bulk of the sessions taking place between April and July 1969, for which five different producers were credited ? including Barrett, Peter Jenner (1968 sessions), Malcolm Jones (early-to-mid 1969 sessions), and fellow Pink Floyd members David Gilmour and Roger Waters (mid-1969 sessions). Among the guest musicians are Willie Wilson from (Gilmour's old band) Jokers Wild and Robert Wyatt of the band Soft Machine.

The Madcap Laughs, released in January 1970 on Harvest in the UK, and on Capitol Records in the US, enjoyed minimal commercial success on release, reaching number 40 on the UK's official albums chart, while failing to hit the US charts.

VERY RARE ORIGINAL PRE-EMI  LP, with a FANTASTIC GATEFOLD Picture Sleeve with Syd pictured in his apartment.  Also retains its original Harvest advertising inner sleeve with famous classic obcure albums like Bakerloo, Forest etc.

THE VINYL PLAYS SUPERBLY ALL THE WAY THROUGH ON BOTH SIDES DESPITE A FEW HAIRLINES. 

THE STEREO REPRODUCTION IS SUPERB AND EVERY NOTE IS HEARD CLEARLY AND CRISPLY.  NEEDLESS TO SAY, NO STICKS OR JUMPS!

On offer here is a very rare LP by SYD BARRETT. A UK only original complete with its original gatefold sleeve. Importantly for a first press, this does NOT have the EMI box on the label and "The Gramophone Co. Ltd. etc." at 10 o'clock. 

     The absolute rarity of this album is not to be underestimated. It hardly ever surfaces nowadays. This is an absolutely gorgeous super heavy slab of early quality vinyl which is in great  condition with only a few hairlines!! This has a lovely deep glossy sheen!! Hauntingly beautiful songcraft!!! Immense quality psych album that ticks all the right boxes and incredibly hard to find.

!!!!A VERY HARD FIND!!! Most have been bought up by collectors!! This is hardly offered these days. This is an album that is on many prog collectors wishlists and it is only the third time I have ever come across it as a first press. Scarce??? I surely think so!!!

 Sensational sound quality, I have played this through in its entirety and it was a great joy!!! NO skips or jumps. Only light static at times, this is really a stunning heavy glossy jet black vinyl .The audio is fantastic. Inspected under an intense lightsource and angled.

Vinyl:  EX.   I have played this in FULL twice over> fantastic audio, a joy to listen to!! This is the true official 1st stereo press. I first played for a general listen and a second time for a more detailed observation. A very enjoyable album indeed taking me back to a different era. I am very glad to be able to report that this is a fine slab of vinyl without any problems at all and as such worthy of inclusion of any great prog collection. All that I could detect were two low level pops early on on side 2.  Of course NO jumps/skips etc.

Gatefold Sleeve:  EX.  A lovely gatefold sleeve. A couple of minute underlaminate creases near the spine. The colours are still as first published with a full lustre and depth. The inner gatefold is beautiful and untouched. The spine is 100% and so are the edges. NO writing. It will be nearly impossible to improve on this.
