ORIGINAL BLUE NOTE MONO VINYL!
Rarely seen in UK auctions is a true MONO FIRST PRESSING of Sam Rivers' Contours on Blue Note Records (BLP 4206) from 1967, with stellar vinyl audio (perfect for an album like this which emphasises space & dynamics between the soloists). I have fully play-tested the vinyl, so my grading is based on how the record actually sounds, as well as how it looks. You’ll be unlikely to find a better sounding mono copy 56 years on!
Record is Excellent - still retaining surface gloss, and after a brief amount of quiet crackle in the run-in plays quietly with crystal-clear mono sound throughout. Side 2 has 3-4 hairlines which are non-feelable and do not affect the audio. VAN GELDER stamp present in the deadwax. Labels are NY USA, indicating the earliest pressing for this title. Of course, the music itself is incredible - just look at the personnel involved, a Blue Note supergroup!
Original sleeve is strong Very Good +, due only to a small split at the top opening and a name written in the back corner - otherwise Excellent.
Original 1967 inner is VG+, with clear tape along 4in of the base and 2in along one of the sides.

Note that I separate the vinyl from the outer sleeve for postage to prevent seam splits. I use thick cardboard stiffeners and take great care in my packaging to ensure as far as possible that these records reach their destination in exactly the same condition as when they leave me, and in the way I'd like to receive them.
