Description
Samuel Francois plays the Ravel Concerto in G Major and Concerto For Left Hand, with Orchestra conducted by Andre Cluytens. UK Columbia SAX 2394, 1961, pale blue & silver Stereophonic labels, Stampers nos. 1/1. Visually and audibly graded as Excellent, I tested the LP with a brand new stylus on my Audio-Technica AT95E cartridge, fitted to a Rega Planar 2 turntable, through a Pioneer A-400 amp and Tannoy speakers. The sound was crystal-clear, as described above, with the very minimum of background noise, and a few light single ticks. I have to mention, that there is a slightly 'hissy' section for 10 seconds at the very start of Side One, and a similar section for just over a minute from the beginning of the unaccompanied piano section towards the end of Side Two, which brings the LP down from an EX+ grading I would say. I would also say that the LP has had the very minimum of plays in it's lifetime, with little evidence of wear on the vinyl or around the centre-hole, and just the very light hairlines as mentioned and a few specks of dust to indicate use. The LP is 'as found' by me, and I haven't cleaned, polished, or otherwise treated the LP in any way, and I don't believe this to be necessary for an LP in this condition! A very scarce and desirable first pressing LP, from the Golden Age of stereo Classical recordings, and a scintillating performance too, of course!
