He is well-known for his presentation of Biblical drama, having presented his interpretation of the "Words of Christ" across the United States, in England, and continental Europe, and in both the Near and Far East. Frank is the son of a South Georgia Methodist Pastor. He early learned the meaning of the Gospel while attending the meetings in his father's rural pastorate. In these early years he had not the slightest dream of a dramatics career but spent his energy preparing for a technical career in aviation. But in his years of specialization at Asbury College, he acted in numerous roles which opened to him a new means of communicating the Christian faith. While traveling with a professional cast and playing the role of Caiphas in a Passion Play, Frank began tracing the hand of God in his life. With each new opportunity God was revealing Himself adequate for Frank's needs, whether in hours of studying at the University of Cincinnati, acting in an off- Broadway production, doing television commercials or working in Cashman Studios in New York City. With each change of circumstances, Frank in- creasingly felt a sense of destiny in the events that were transpiring. Weary with traveling Frank decided to settle in his home town of Sanders- ville, Georgia, where he became the news director for a local radio station. It was at this time-that he met his lovely wife, Hazel, and settled down, but not for long, z) I ) /) From this settled style of living, God steered him into an awareness of human need. His own voice, giving reports of world events, distinctly echoed God's call. The challenge to action became irresistible! Frank kept asking him- self, "Am I simply going to report the events or am I, for Christ's sake, going to become involved in these events?" This question, loaded with stark realism, drove Frank Roughton into the ministry. Years of seminary preparation lay before him, but sustained by his dedi- cated wife and his sense of God's call, Frank bore into the depths of Christ's message for modern man. Throughout the past few years of his ministry in drama and unconventional preaching, Frank has never lost the vision for building an outdoor theatre in which to dramatize the life of Christ. This vision has been sharpened by his work in drama and his increasing conviction that it is a valid means of pre- senting the Gospel of Christ. The longer I know Frank Roughton, the more fully I realize that his life is dominated by two great passions. One is an urgent desire to live out in his whole existence the meaning of Jesus Christ. And the other passion is to present this message of truth to all men so that they also may know the Christ whom he knows and loves.
