An original 1st press of the THIRD ALBUM on the UK CBS album. Matrix A1/B1. Ok, so what's the difference between THIS copy and all the others out there? Well, at first glance it might be difficult to spot, but let me assure you that THERE IS A DIFFERENCE. Well, the very 1st copies are pressed marginally heavier and are that bit closer to the original masters. CBS rushed the first labels for the THIRD ALBUM...I'll point out some of the obvious errors on the very EARLIEST copies.. All copies should have the publishing date as 1971 and the track timings against every track. This copy omits the publishing date and there are NO track timings..whoops! Also, check out the publishing information on the track "Everybody's Everything" - "Dandelion"...this is the very earliest iteration and was soon changed to 'Keith Prowse' on ALL later copies. So, there you have it... the very 1st copy possible to obtain in the UK and in very tidy condition. The vinyl comes housed in an original gatefold with the gold sticker on the front. Also included is the original CBS advertising inner sleeve. So, 100% genuine and 100% complete.
Vinyl (Ex+) Bit of a stunner and has clearly only seen light use. Under close inspection I'm struggling to make out more than a couple of very light marks per side - nothing remotely troublesome. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals a mostly EXCELLENT+ level of playback. Needless to say the early copies, like this one, really do contain some magical audio. Intros and inbetweens are really nice and quiet and the audio comes across with perfect clarity. Quite passages and instrumental sections all play clear and clean - you couldn't really ask for much more from this example. If you love Santana's groove and the band inter-play..you'll love this copy as it does a great job of resolving all of this. Interference is pretty much absent. I might have detected just the very lightest contact and slightest couple of crackles in, perhaps, one isolated spot per side. I think you'll struggle going any better. A top-level performer with very little to complain at.
Cover (Ex-) Can end up looking a bit dog-eared by this point in time. But this example has survived the years in impressive condition. On the front I can only make out a couple of very light impressions and some very lightest handling. The sticker is intact and is not peeling up at all. The rear looks marginally better with very little noticeable at all. The interior is borderline immaculate - very nice and flat and clean. What looks, at first, looks like a touch of wear in the interior is in fact a printing issue which occurred on many copies. Edge wear is much slighter than you usually find on this album and the front opening panel retains all of its original rigidity. The spine is above average and doesn't appear to have compressed like other specimens can do. There's a touch of lightest wear, but all text fully legible. Overall the cover retains excellent rigidity and remains an impressive early example.
