Description
Up for sale is a terrific LP of traditional (Dixieland) New Orleans jazz, performed a hot band led by one of the pioneers in the field. The LP jacket is signed by the band leader and FIVE other musicians and/or personalities connected with New Orleans!
IMPORTANT NOTE: ALTHOUGH ALL OF THE SIGNATURES ARE FROM NEW ORLEANS MUSICIANS AND/OR PERSONALITIES, THE ONLY SIGNATURE THAT IS ALSO DIRECTLY CONNECTED WITH THE ALBUM IS THAT OF SANTO PECORA.
On the back of the LP jacket are the following signatures:
1. Santo Pecora [He has written: "To Booty and Sally because his Mom & Daddy like our Music. Musically yours, Santo Pecora.]
Santo Pecora (1902 - 1984) was known as "Mr. Tailgate". He was associated with the New Orleans Rhythm Kings (NORK) starting in the mid-1920s. After a number of years in Chicago, he returned to New Orleans in the 1940s where he was an associate of Sharkey Bonnano. He remained active on the local scene well into the 1960s
2. Jimmy Niehaus [He has written "Jimmy Niehaus, Sax & Clar."]
Jimmy Niehaus was a highly regarded musician as evidenced by the fact that he was part of the Wallace Davenport Band that appeared at the International Jazz Cabaret that was a component of the 1972 New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival (aka "Jazz Fest").
3. Ron "Ronnie" DuPont [He has written "Ron Dupont (-Piano)".]
Ron Dupont (1937 - 2015) was a native New Orleanian. He was a jazz pianist who also played for Al Hirt and Pete Fountain. In the 1960s, he had his own quartet that played regularly at the Bistro Lounge on Tulane Avenue.
4. Everett Link [He has written "Everett Link BASS" and has drawn a sketch of a string bass.]
Bassist Everett Link would be come a long time (20+ year) player with the (new) Dukes of Dixieland.
5. Milton Zschiedrich [He has written "Milton Zschiedrich (Drums)".]
Milton Zschiedrich (1929 - 2016) recorded with Nicky's Dixieland Jazz Band (The Last Straws).
6. Hyp Guinli [He has written "To Boty Best of Luck, Hyp Guinli".]
Hyp Guinli was a boxing promoter who opened "The Famous Door" nightclub at the corner of Bourbon and Conti (in New Orleans) in the 1930s. The club became the home of Sharkey Bonano and the "Kings of Dixieland" and, later, the Assunto Brothers and their "Dukes of Dixieland".
