Description
Scarce and Rare Early 1st Pressing which is becoming harder and harder to find in playable condition
The Beatles Please Please Me / Ask Me Why
Parlophone 45-R 4983 with Red Label with the Made In Great Britain text on both labels
This is one of the earliest copies available of this single on the red label as in January the same month of release production of the record shifted to the more common black label
Tax Code: MPT - January 1963
Matrices: Side 1 is 7XCE 17217-1N & Side 2 is 7XCE 17218-1N
Mothers: Side 1 & Side 2 both have the 1st Mother '1'
Stampers: Side 1 has 'GD' or '# 10' & Side 2 has 'A' or '# 3'
These are incredibly low for the 1st pressing as it was short lived due to the change to the more common black label
Although the Side 1 mother and stamper suggest this copy would be within the 1st 3,000 copies sold
More interestingly the Side 2 mother stamper suggests this copy was within the first 900 copies made
The Vinyl is visually G and has been well handled however the audio is VG there is background noise/crackle which is unavoidable for a record aged 51 years
Audio is loud and clear and the background noise/crackle does not detract from the vinyl - the music being prominent unlike over copies where the background noise crackle is more prominent than the audio. I have recently upgraded to a VG+/EX- copy and I can honestly say there is only a small change in the sound/audio quality on my record players.
The Labels are tidy and clean Side 1 does have some pen marks to the label but Side 2 is clear of pen marks both labels however have no names written and are free from stickers and tears.
The record comes in the correct Type C sleeve which is in VG condition

On 25-May-14 at 00:28:29 BST, seller added the following information: Info from a variety of sources
I am unsure how many copies are available on the red label with MIGB text but it is common knowledge these sold out quickly within the 1st week or so if not days as the red labelled copies
without MIGB are apparently copies which were issued due to an emergency which occurred to a shortage where subsequent copies on the new black label were not available / ready as these were
not released until the 1st week of February. Hence copies of Please Please Me with MIGB text are scarcer than those without.
It is also assumed that most red labelled 1st pressings of Love Me Do and Please Please Me were sold from Brian Epstein's NEM'S Shop in Liverpool as it is reported that he ordered 10,000 copies
of Love Me Do to be delivered to his store due to the spiralling demand for Beatles records and his proximity to the home/birth place of The Beatles. Although it may never be known it is likely that he
would have ordered a similar amount of Please Please Me to be delivered.
There seems to be a lot of speculation around the early 1st pressings and although I cannot say for definite whether the above is true or not it is highly probable that this is what happened.
