Description
Up for your consideration is one set of seven (7) Seeburg Background Music Library records which were used in the Seeburg Background Music System from approximately 1959 through the early 1980's.
This auction is for 7 Mood format records. The records in this set are a mixed bag. The included box is not the original box. The previous owner crossed out the Place In Use date on the box with a pen.
4 of these records have a place in use date of July 1, 1970 on the label, the other 3 have a place in use date of October 1, 1970.
Records are labeled as follows, with condition:
Place in use 7/1/70:
MM-104 looks nice and clean. One side has a bump on the first or second track but does not appear to affect the play.
MM-124 side a has what looks like some minor melting in a couple of spots (see photo).
MM-128 Side a has some wear towards the end of record. Side b has a bruise that goes all the way around but looks nice and clean (see photo).
MM-120 looks nice and clean.
Place in use 10/1/70:
MM-125 side a has a small bruise, otherwise nice and clean.
MM-101 Side b has some wear with a bruise from the middle of the record to the end. Side a is nice and clean but track 10 has a couple of skips, possibly dirt?
MM-105 side a has some wear with a hairline scratch about 2 centimeters. Side b looks good.
Records are 9 inches in diameter and have a center hole of approximately 2 inches in diameter. They play at a speed of 16 2/3 rpm. I made my own center adapter and played them only once on a pioneer turntable and they have not been used since.
These types of records were originally played in a Seeburg BMS player which was used in Grocery Stores, Department Stores, Motels, Factories, etc., to broadcast background music over the PA system. Seeburg put out three formats, Basic, Mood and Industrial.
Replacements were issued quarterly, and the subscriber of the service was to change out 5 discs based on the number on the record label and send back the discs that were removed from the machine. Failure to do so resulted in the subscriber being charged an additional 22 cents per month for each record not returned, according to the instructions on the box. Records, once returned, were never used again and presumably destroyed.
I will be listing numerous sets of these records over the next few weeks. Most of my collection is Seeburg but I also have a few odds and ends labeled, Rowe Customusic, a competitor of Seeburg.
