The most well known performer was Veronica Tyler. A native of Baltimore, she studied at the Peabody Conservatory and at the Julliard School of Music. Her abilities were recognized at an early age. By the early 1960s, she had received a silver medal at the FirstTchaikovsky Competition for Voice and first prize at the Munich International Competition as well as winning the Metropolitan Opera Auditions. She performed with major opera companies and symphony orchestras. She also made guest appearances on the Tonight Show and was a frequent soloist on Leonard Bernstein's "Young People's Concerts". By the time she recorded this record in 1980, Tyler had had a 10 year association with the Abbey of Regina Laudis, located in Bethlehem, Connecticut. She volunteered her services to the Abbey's Benedictine Choir of women's voices. She had a deep religious commitment and had had an audience with Pope Paul VI who told her "your work must continue". Tyler died on March 21, 2020 after a brief illness.
NOTE: I am also selling one of the other LPs that were produced for the same occasion. That LP is titled: "The Passion of Christ in Spirituals" and also features Veronica Tyler. The two auctions are synchronized to close at the same time. I will be happy to combine shipping if you purchase both.

Attention US Buyers: I will ship by USPS Media Mail or by USPS Priority Mail, your choice. Please note that if you have a Military Mail address (e.g. APO), I must ask that you pick USPS Priority Mail as it is my understanding that USPS Media Mail is not reliable to Military Mail addresses.
Attention International Buyers: Unfortunately, it appears that international shipping from the US (via the USPS) has become unreliable, because of the pandemic. Therefore, I have decided to remove the international shipping option. You are still welcome to bid on this item, but will need to supply a shipping address in the US. I'm sorry for the inconvenience. Thank you for your understanding.
