Seven COUNTRY 78's - BUD BILLINGS, Pop Hanks, PAUL HOWARD, Hi-Flyers, HUGH CROSS

This lot contains seven 10-inch 78 RPM records, all in the general country or country and western genre, and most of them, I believe, dating back to the pre-World War II era or, in many cases, even earlier. All ten are shown in the first picture, then individually or in pairs, both sides, in the order listed below. Most of them are included in Tony Russell's "Country Music Records Discography", so recording dates and other information from that source is included (in parentheses) when available.

Columbia # 15049-D - "The Letter Edged in Black" and "Zeb Turney's Gal" by Al Craver (pseudonym for Vernon Dalhart, both sides recorded November 4, 1925, with Carson Robison on guitar).

Columbia # 15206-D - "When You Wore a Tulip" and "Red River Valley" by Hugh Cross and Riley Puckett (both sides recorded November 3, 1927).

Columbia # 15155-D - "Daisies Won't Tell" and "When the Bees Are in the Hive" by Roy Harvey and Posey Rorer (both sides recorded May 12, 1927).

Columbia # 37204 - "Oklahoma City" and "Somebody Else's Trouble" by Paul Howard and his Cotton Pickers (not in Russell).

Okeh # 05623 - "The Honky Tonk Jump" and "Roadside Rag" by the Hi-Flyers (both sides recorded April 22, 1940).

Victor # 22852 - "In the Cumberland Mountains" and "Missouri Valley" by Bud and Joe Billings (pseudonyms for Frank Luther and Carson Robinson, both sides recorded September 24, 1931).

Diva # 2866-G - "Arkansas Traveler" and "Turkey in the Straw" by Pop Hanks and his Boys (pseudonym for Joseph Samuels, both sides recorded in March or April, 1926).

They are all in very heavily played condition, with dull playing surfaces and a lot of surface scuffs and scratches. I played them all on my Audio-Technica turntable, and there were varying levels of fairly constant background noise, including clicks and ticks and general static hiss and crackle, and even a few forward skips. The exceptions are the red Columbia and the Diva, both of which are still nice and shiny and play through with much less drama. Because of variations in tracking ability, filtering technology and needle weights, I can offer no guarantees as to how well they will play on your equipment.
