Shirley Vaughn – ‘Stop And Listen’ / ‘Doesn’t Everybody’ – Fairmount 1023 (US)

Another fab release on Philadelphia’s collectable Fairmount imprint, though this one was most likely recorded in New York; the second for the label by this great-sounding singer who also had releases on Double RR (the wonderful ‘Watch Out Mr. Lonely’) and Columbia. Patti Drew sang ‘Stop And Listen’ as well, and very nicely at that, but in my opinion Shirley’s version has a slight edge. And the B-side, ‘Doesn’t Everybody’, if anything, is even better.  

Condition: VG++ (please listen to the clips). Ever so slightly damaged labels (please see scans).
