Description

redgarnett Store ITEM DESCRIPTION:

This handsome LP – a still-sealed copy – from Epic (LC 3382, US pressing, label iteration unknown – presumably gold radial lable, mono – no stereo edition exists) features pianist Leonard Shure’s magnificent account of Beethoven’s Variations on a Theme of Diabelli Op. 120, recorded at Columbia 30th Street Studio, New York, on 5 March 1957.

Shure was a remarkable pianist and one can only hope more material will surface, in addition to the fine issues by Audiofon and Bridge Records. His Diabelli Variaitons can be spoken of in the same breath as those by Arrau, Serkin, Horszowski, and Kovacevich – stunning.

The striking cover portrait of Beethoven was executed by Louis Lupas. There are informative liner notes on the reverse side of the jacket by George Jellinek, printed in English only.

CONDITION:

The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.

The condition of the jacket is EXCELLENT. Though a genuinely sealed copy, there is minor bumping at the other corners and mild discoloration, though this may be more to the shrinkwrap than to the actual album. There are no seamsplits, owners’ markings, or other defects and the album remains solid, bright, and highly attractive – overall, an excellent collector’s copy.

The condition of the LP is MINT. This is a still-sealed, unplayed copy – the ideal collector's copy.
