Description
A scarce and prized traditional jazz artifact from the Chicago club label Jazz Ltd, featuring the immortal Sidney Bechet on the exotic Egyptian Fantasy. Bechet soaring reeds dance over a hot small group including pianist Don Ewell, and the recording radiates the smoky intimacy of a live jazz room. Serious collectors of early jazz will recognize how special this pressing truly is.
The reverse delivers Scott Joplin Maple Leaf Rag in a spirited piano led romp by Don Ewell with Wally Gordon and Sid Thall, a joyous nod to ragtime roots. Cut on shellac for 78 players and recorded by United Broadcasting Co in Chicago, this disc is a genuine hot jazz treasure rarely found today.
