Description
It's always a problem grading these lovely old SKA records.
They went to lots of parties.
That means that they're a bit battered and that's why many have names written on the label.
HOWEVER... they're usually cut VERY LOUD and though they look a bit rough, they sound OK (especially if you press the "Mono" button).
This means that a 60's Ska goodie can be perfectly acceptable, even if it looks R.A.A.B.B. (Rough As A Bear's Bottom)..
Please “bear” that in mind when reading my descriptions.
Here we have a VERY CLEAN AND TIDY 1966 45 rpm release on the always interesting RIO label, number R78 A/B
It’s “You Don’t Know” by The Charmers, who were Lloyd Terel (Tyrell etc) & Roy Willis.
On the B side there’s Cornell and Roy (Cornell Campbell & Roy Panton) with “Sweetest Girl”.
The Cornell & Roy side was (says the ever-reliable Mr Google) also released in Jamaica under the name "The Bellstars".
This must be a surprise to the similarly-named ladies who used to be The Bodysnatchers.
That release was on the Jamaican Giant label and good luck to you, chum, if you’re trying to find a copy.
This disc (with an un-blemished and notoriously difficult to read BLUE label) is in PRETTY DARN GOOD CONDITION.
It is as clean as a joke told by Valerie Singleton.
It shines like the eyes of a cabinet minister who has just heard, from 500 yards away, a foreign billionaire opening his wallet.
Using the Record Collector Magazine yardstick, I’d describe it as VG+++++++ or thereabouts, or even better. There are a few very light sleeve marks, (see photo) but otherwise it is very nice indeed, and it plays beautifully.
Bid now before the inevitable alien apocalypse.
