Description
It's always a problem grading these lovely old SKA records.
They went to lots of parties.
That means that they're a bit battered and that's why many have names written on the label.
HOWEVER... they're usually cut VERY LOUD and though they look a bit rough, they sound OK (especially if you press the "Mono" button).
This means that a 60's Ska goodie can be perfectly acceptable, even if it looks R.A.A.B.B. (Rough As A Bear's Bottom)..
Please “bear” that in mind when reading my descriptions.
Here we have wonderful Roland Alphonso (like Laurel Aitken, another Jamaican ska legend who was actually born in Cuba). He's on a nice clean Pyramid single PYR 6005 dating from 1967. "Women Of The World" is a mid tempo danceable alto-sax instrumental. The other side is "The Kisses" by the Spanishtonians. They seem to feature the same bass (and bass player?) with the so-horrible-it's-wonderful bass sound that you find on the early 45s by The Rulers on Rio.
They are a very young vocal group and sound like you'd expect.

Conditionwise, the Roland Alphonso side is cleaner and plays better, with a few very light storage sleeve marks that don't really matter a hill o' beans. Let's call it a good strong collectable VG+ or thereabouts. The B side has one larger scratch which still is mostly inaudible with the "mono" button pressed. Let's call the B side a fair VG+ but not as good as the A side.
It's as rare as heck, and you'll be hard pushed to find another one at this starting price, in this condition.
