Slapp Happy/ Henry Cow ORIG UK LP Desperate Straights VG+ '75 Virgin Art Rock

Original UK 2nd Press  LP released in 1975 on Virgin Records. Cat: V2024. Comes in a gatefold sleeve.
Uncovered in the out back of N.S.W. this record is part of a recent collection stored and unplayed for the last 20 years. Collected during the 90's and mostly sourced from overseas kept in a cool dry cellar there are some tasty gems on offer and we look forward on listing them over the next few months.

A surprising team-up at the time of its release (1975), Desperate Straights is a surprisingly melodic album, light on the art-school angst and heavy on the playfulness, which one would hardly expect from such determined socialists as these. But here it is: "Some Questions About Hats" sounds like a Kurt Weill outtake, "A Worm Is at Work" gallops along with a sweet tune. Dagmar Krause remains restrained and not given to flights of horrible fancy. "Strayed" is reminiscient of Kevin Ayers' brand of art rock, and most of the songs clock in under two minutes. But never fear: the album ends on the eight-minute "Caucasian Lullaby," a minimal woodwind piece that suddenly bursts into one last jab of Krause-ian despair.

Tracks : Some questions about hats/ A worm is at work/ Bad alchemy/ Europa/ Riding tigers/ Apes in capes/ Strayed/ Giants.

There are some light spindle marks on labels. Record has some light scuff marks and a few very light scratches that cause some light crackles and is in VG+ condition. Gatefold cover has light ringwear, light marks, a sticker stain and small surface tear on top right corner and a few small surface tears around edges and is in VG+ condition.

Wrapping method: All records are sent in stiff cardboard mailers then wrapped in brown paper and sealed around edges with brown packaging tape. Records are taken out of sleeve to avoid seam splits and ring wear.
