General Info about the Music

Ogdens' Nut Gone Flake is a concept album by the British rock band The Small Faces. The title is a parody of an actual brand of tobacco, Ogdens' Nut-brown Flake.

The A-side is fairly conventional and features the hit single "Lazy Sunday". The B-side is based on an original fairy tale about a boy called Happiness Stan, narrated gobbledegook-style by Stanley Unwin, who had to ask the band for tips about modern slang so that he could incorporate it into the narrative.

In 2000, Q magazine placed Ogden's Nut Gone Flake at number 59 in its list of the 100 Greatest British Albums Ever.

About the Cover/Sleeve

The round cover is in excellent condition, considering its fairly fragile design. The back cover shows just one patent number, 21639/68, showing that this is an early original pressing (later pressings had two patent numbers on the cover). Also, the title on the cover and vinyl is spelt Ogdens', but on later versions tended to be printed as Ogden's. The edges are very slightly worn, and the join between two of the circular pieces is gone, with what looks like a small sellotape mark. Aside from this, the colours of this intriguing design are bright and clean.

The record comes with its original poly sleeve with rounded corners.

The Vinyl

I've listened to the LP (IMLP 012) all the way through. Near the end of track 1 on side 1 the record sticks once. Apart from this there is no background noise, pops, jumps or crackles anywhere. The label has very minimal spindle wear, and the lilac/grey Immediate label is clean. The owner of this album was meticulous in his care of his LPs, especially the vinyl, and I am sure you will be pleased with your purchase.
