THE very first stereo issue of this magnificent rarity!
The unusual album sleeve caused a massive stir/ media interest on issue. Probably renowned for being the most delicate gatefold sleeve ever manufactured during the sixties. A very distinctive cover and extremely delicate . Fragility of this sleeve is obvious when it is revealed that it has four vulnerable hinges which holds the entire multi-fold out sleeve in tact!! Not many were to survive the heavy handling and playing history of previous owners. This sleeve is certainly one of a very few to survive, all hinges in place and only one small tear on one of them, which is quite remarkable. Most are found hanging in shreds or heavily torn/damaged. Even the unlaminated circular faces are normally found dirtied and scuffed but these faces are unbelievable. Edges are very tidy and hardly any wear is observed. Coloration is unfaded , obviously stored away from bright light and coloration projects magnificently. Excellent condition and better than most! Garrod & Lofthouse manufactured /UK patent application 21639/68 printed on reverse to confirm THE very first issue of this delightful album cover.
Immediate first pressed pale lilac label format in excellent condition. Pale coloration ages very quickly with massive discoloration normally, showing every blemish. This one is a pure delight and only displays a few light spider lines . Rarely found clean so better than many. No mottling, lifting or peeling and look quite sensational against the jet black of the vinyl.
Vinyl
An extremely scarce pressing of 150 grams , confirming a true, genuine vintage pressing. The average weight for sixties vinyl was around 145 grams and seventies vinyls were weighed in about 125 gr. So a pretty impressive feel, unusually heavy and gives a buzz when held. Not many pressed like this one. Several hairlines/surface marks observed but disappear beneath a mirror like sheen. No ugly blemishes and a pleasure to view. One of the most coveted vinyls in the collectors’ world.
Audio
Most are found heavily scratched with badly worn surfaces. Not this one however. Tongue in cheek humour is laced with some wonderful progressive rock ballads. Channels project the deepest of bass tones and is quite sensational . Any surface disturbance is quite insignificant and the tones rise high above any interference. The silent spoken passages have some light static and between tracks/linking grooves some very light surface , but believe me , the progressive instrumentation is delivered in sensational style. At least a very good ++++ , and considerably better in most parts of this awesome classic.
An unbelievable example of a hard to find vintage first press, presented with a truly remarkable album cover, rarely seen in such a superb condition.
