In 1957 the english DECCA company were pressing singles for american record companies for sale in the UK. Their most famous label was this, the LONDON label and the most collected examples are those with the writing on the label in gold, the legendary 'GOLD LONDON' label!

Not only does this series contain some of the finest early rock 'n' roll and rhythm and blues, they were pressed in such small quantities they are all but impossible to find nowdays.

Here we have an example of one of the most sought after singles on this gold label, SMILEY LEWIS with the blistering "SHAME, SHAME, SHAME". Although this song found its way onto the soundtrack of the steamy 1957 Hollywood film “Baby Doll” and acheived moderate success in the Southern States of the USA it all but sunk without trace here in the UK.

The condition, overall is 'excellent'. There is hardly any fading to the labels on either side as can be seen from the pictures and the playing surfaces still have a fantastic shine. I have just played this and it sounds absolutely magnificent with no clicks or pops. In fact, this is hardly surprising as it kicks in from the start at high volume just as all these early pressings should!
