DESCRIPTION : A soul crooner who, unlike his peers Sam Cooke and Aretha Franklin, Never found a major pop Audience. Burke is still spilling his soul in a gritty southern style by the time of this 1968 release (his last on Atlantic Records). Here, Burke has begun to blend funky dance-heavy bass-lines and Motown style backing vocals with his more traditional church inspired sensibilities. ty. Burke's solid and smoky voice shines on cuts like the party version of Ray Charles’ “What I Say” and on “Get Out Of My Life Woman” with its HUGE open drum intro.
