Description

Sonny Bradshaw – ‘Hard Day’s Night’ / ‘The Beatle’ – SON (Jamaica)

Insanely rare ska versions of two songs from The Beatles’ A Hard Day’s Night album by legendary Jamaican trumpet player and band leader Sonny Bradshaw (1926-2009). The flip, ‘The Beatle,’ is, in fact, a fantastic version of ‘I’m Happy Just To Dance With You’ (penned by Lennon-McCartney, but sung by George Harrison in the film). This is an original Jamaican single from late 1964.

Please listen to both sides here:

Condition: Visually, the disc looks pretty worn. There are marks and scuffs and small (not deep) scratches. Listening to it, it sounds surprisingly good. No loud clicks, no skipping, and what distortion there is, is just as likely inherent in the original pressing. Not sure what an accurate grade might be; at least VG, I should think – the only noticeable noise appears at the beginning of ‘The Beatle’ and it’s still not too bad. Please listen to the clips, which feature the complete songs. Obviously, this is a very rare record in any condition, one that should interest Beatles and ska collectors both.

The labels are quite worn, however (please see scans). Interestingly, the vinyl isn’t black, but a kind of dark, greenish brown (though I’m not sure this comes through in the scans).
