Description
SONNY ROLLINS - NEWK'S TIME RVG Mono repress - second pressing
Vinyl: VG+ (plays very loud; clean, powerful mono RVG sound. There is slight edge warp that does not affect play.) Sleeve: VG - VG+ (Laminated original sleeve presents very nicely; some edge and shelf wear)
A great early pressing of Sonny Rollins's NEWK'S TIME. This is the second issue from circa 1960. In 1959, Blue Note started adding "INC" and ® to their labels, but when repressing back titles, they first used up the excess print from the original run, mixing in the old labels with new labels featuring "INC" and ®, so at least one side of the LP would feature this legal notation. As a result there are many "transitional" pressings such as this one, which features "INC" and ® with the 47 W 63rd address on side 1, but no "INC" or ® on side 2.
Pressed from the original Rudy Van Gelder mono metalwork at Plastylite; features RVG, 9M, and "ear"/P in the deadwax on both sides.
Grading scale:
SS (still sealed) - never been opened, a new record.
NM: basically perfect, like new.
VG++ / Excellent: very minor, isolated blemishes that will not affect sound, or sleeve appearance.
VG+: Blemishes visible under light, but will not consistently compromise sound. Sleeve may have some corner bumps and shelf wear.
VG: Obvious marks or blemishes that will affect sound or create noise, but are not pervasive and should not overpower the music. Sleeve is worn but presents well. Any seam splits are minor and do not structurally compromise the sleeve.
VG-: Deep marks or scratches on record, or significant groove wear, compromising listenability. Sleeve is very visibly worn, may have more serious seam splits.
