Sonny Rollins Newk's Time BLUE NOTE W63 GROOVE RVG No R
Sonny Rollins, Newk's Time.
Early USA pressed Blue Note Records mono LP, BLP 4001.
47 West 63rd NYC label script at 12 o'clock (both label sides and repeated to rear of sleeve), inset groove, no "R" after Blue Note logo either side.
RVG (for Rudy Van Gelder) and "ear" stampers both sides, although one of the "ears" is a slightly more indeterminate squiggle.
Vinyl in very clean condition. Although close inspection of the centre spindle areas shows evidence of a fair number of spider trace marks, vinyl surfaces are very clean, and display just two or three of the lightest of superficial scuff marks. No deep scratches, and no dulled patches. Clearly a very carefully played LP.
Playback throughout is superb. No distortion or loss of sound quality, and no ticks, clicks or background crackle. A really super listening experience.
Both labels are clean and free of marks or loss.
Inner sleeve appears to be a later replacement.
Thick heavy duty outer sleeve in very clean condition with just a tad of storage rubbing. No pen or sticker marks. No excessive wear or whitening. All edges have been fairly neatly reinforced with sellotape. This has been removed along top and left edge, which has left a thin linear "tide mark, but is otherwise pretty clean and without tackiness etc. These areas have not suffered loss or tearing. The existing sellotape has yellowed with age. This appears to have been applied as reinforcement rather than repair, as there are no seam splits, and the spine especially is actually in really clean condition, and free of residue. At least it can be said the sellotape has helped prevent the usual seam splitting that these early USA sleeves are so prone to. Tips are clean and tidy with just hints of whitening. Rear panel is intact and clean.
All in all, a very nice example of this classic Blue Note LP.
