Sonny Rollins Four "Saxophone Colossus" Prestige PRLP-7079, Deep Groove labels, '446 W. 50th St., N.Y.C.' Address on the label, '46 W. 50th Street, New York 19, N.Y.' address at the bottom of the back cover; 'RVG' is etched in the deadwax. If only it were in better shape: Vinyl is in VG-/G+ condition, on a scale of 1 to 10 that's about a 3 or (maybe) 4. It plays with moderate to occasionally heavy surface noise throughout, a result of numerous hairlines and some real scratches - though Rollins' horn cuts through most of it - and the LP does not skip if your tracking in the neighborhood of 2 grams ( a pretty rough neighborhood, we know) but will skip several times a side tracking at 1 to 1 and 1/4 grams. The cover is a pretty solid VG, with laminate corner wear at the spine edges - the remainder of the seams are strong VG/VG+, as is most of the front cover laminate. There is light to moderate soiling on the back cover. If you seek something closer to VG or VG+, keep looking, this AIN'T IT. A first press placeholder, or potential replacement cover. Still....a bit of a tough find.
