Description

Clarence Reid Soul/Funk on Alston 4582 1969. “I’ve Been Tryin”/“Don’t Look Too Hard”


Great Soul/Funk obscurity by Georgia native and singer-songwriter-producer Clarence Reid (1939-2016).

While the term “rare” is overused, this is the first copy I’ve seen come up for auction in about 10 years. I have no idea why someone has the only copy listed on Discogs for over $700. It shouldn’t command that kind of money. But it is uncommon and a good record.


This vinyl on this copy grades as M- (mint minus) with lots of shine. This disc has the tiniest hint of a storage warp when I tested it. Does not affect play whatsoever.


Labels: Bright, clean and clear; no marks, ink or tears. It has been cleaned with an ultrasonic record cleaner as well.


Sleeve: generic brown sleeve - standard for early Alston.


Provenance: This copy was owned by Boston disc jockey Ken Raposa at WEEI radio. After his death in an accident in 1987, it was inherited by another Massachusetts collector and DJ who passed in 2024.
