Description
TONY SCOTT Ou Dhladhla! Ou-Scott!/Wozani Toni! South African RCA. 99 E 1957 American clarinetist Tony Scott visited Johannesburg while on a world tour in 1957 and made a few records with local African musicans. On the a side here, he is accompanied by the Alexander Dead End Kids, on the b side (where a party atmosphere has been created) by a vocal group with both a female and a male lead singer plus a single pennywhistler player (probably the lead flute of the Dead End Kids.) Typically, as with most post-war 'modern' US jazz players, Scott is incapable of playing a simple, direct, unadorned melody line; instead he falls back on the usual oodles of noodles and ends up sounding as if he is trying to blow the other musicians clean out of the studio. (Scott should have listened to Dan Hill to hear how a technically accomplished white musician could integrate with African musos quite perfectly.)
BIDDERS PLEASE READ! These records must be shipped from South Africa so eBay's standard $4.00 postal rate applicable to internal North American shipments does not apply. (The eBay template requires that a shipping fee of no more than $4.00 be entered so I have complied, but common sense should tell you that it costs more to ship a record 10,000 miles from the southern end of the African continent to, say, Chicago than it will from Des Moines.) SO, DO NOT SEND MONEY UNTIL YOU RECEIVE AN INVOICE REFLECTING THE ACTUAL COST OF POSTAGE ! I can ship to any location from Albania to Zimbabwe.
