Description
Original UK Fontana black label mono 1st press.
Their second album was recorded in late 1965 and released in January 1966. The Spencer Davis Group had formed in Birmingham in 1963 and played a mix of soul, pop and rock, with brothers Steve & Muff Winwood on keyboards & bass, Steve later founding Traffic. The band were signed up in 1964 by Chris Backwell of Island Records and distributed through Fontana.
The track 'Keep On Running' was their first hit and was written by Jamaican musician Jackie Edwards. The influence of the group can be heard on later cover versions of their songs by bands ranging from Chicago to Dr Feelgood.
This is the original 1966 issue, with the first label variation, with the 'Island Record Production/First Published 1966' credits and the 1L//1 2L//1 matrices and 1-1-10 1-1-10 stampers of the first presses.
