Description

This is the first LP by the excellent folk/rock band Spirogyra, issued on B&C (CAS 1042) in 1971. I still have a vivid memory of seeing them for the first time play live at 4 am during an all-nighter at the LSE. I bought the LP immediately afterwards. Superb songs and vocals (Martin Cockerham and Barbara Gaskin) with some deft violin and keyboard from Julian Kusack. The bassist was Steve Borrill and the occasional drums were supplied by the ubiquitous Dave Mattacks. A wonderful record which permeates an agreeable amateurish charm.  I hadn't noticed before, but this was produced by Robert Kirby, who provided such excellent arrangements for Nick Drake and David Ackles, among others. He provides string, trumpet and recorder arrangement here, too.

Tracks are:
Side 1:

  1. The Future Won't Be Long
  2. Island
  3. Magical Mary
  4. Captain's Log
  5. At Home In The World
  6. Cogwheels Crutches And Cyanide
Side 2:
  1. Time Will Tell
  2. We Were A Happy Crew
  3. Love Is A Funny Thing
  4. The Duke Of Beaufoot
Condition:  Vinyl is in VG++ condition, with very good shine, no scratches, no wear, a few minor surface marks, no spindle marks. It plays extremely well, with just the occasional pops and clicks common with records of this period.

Sleeve is VG+. There is some ring wear, and a small sticker tear in one corner. Comes with the original inner sleeve with the lyrics, which is in excellent shape.

Shipping in the USA will be USPS Media Mail, unless otherwise requested by the buyer. International shipping will be at cost and will vary according to the destination country.
