SUPER scarce LP from Belleville IL, the band was known as the UNKNOWNS until this LP came out and they had put a few nice local stereo 45's out that lit up the area jukeboxes with a folk-tinged rock al a Buffalo Springfield… BUT in 1968 they secured a 1" four track machine from the local air force base and with their heads full of dreams they set about making this classic indie LP. Talking to Stix,  many years later, he told me that they were so psyched to get this machine, because they knew Sgt Peppers had been done on one such 4-track machine and once they changed the plugs over from military style to standard audio jacks, they were off and running. The LP was HEAVILY influenced by their idols, the Byrds and specifically Sweetheart of the Rodeo and they were aware of the under-bubbling of outlaw country and Graham Parson's influence on all of these people, even though his reputation was very obscure at the time. Also KSHE radio in St Louis had surprised everyone in the area, by getting the highest ratings in the radio market playing this crazy hippie music with almost no commercials… playing an entire LP side at a time, the very idea was outlandish! In fact, they had invented the AOR format out of thin air and were probably the first FM station to try this full time. In fact, they more or less snuck this in… the owners of the station weren't even aware that the format had been "hijacked" by the early program directors and before they could wise up and FIRE them, they had the number one station in the market!! Ron Lipe, otherwise known as "Prince Knight" spearheaded this pirating of the station, having come in from nowhere and inserting his idea of album oriented radio from some college stations he had heard… ENTER The Unknowns… Ron had personally started managing this group shortly before this LP came out and got them released on the Cinema label… with this LP they endeavored to do two things… side one was a more commercial side of the band, playing some re-worked covers, cutting up in the studio and some honky tonk medleys, etc… basically an audio business card for local and regional clubs that they wanted to play. Side two is their psychedelic tinged homage to their kind of music, heavily influenced by Byrds and Buffalo Springfield, both staples of the foundling radian station KSHE. This LP was pressed in numbers of about 1000, making it SUPER scarce and you only find them HERE in the ST Louis area, and on the East Side in IL, as they actually hailed from Belleville IL, a local STL suburb. They had a nice local following airplay with the outlaw country song "don't ever trust a woman (with your dope)" running down each verse with all the various drugs of the day that his mean ol' woman stole when she left him!! The LP was reissued (a while back in very small numbers, as few as the original!), but be aware that the reissue was taken from an LP master and beings that this one is sealed, we have the cleanest one of these out there! I've had about 5 of these in my hands over my years of collecting and this is the only sealed one I've ever seen and the last one out there, possibly! There are many bloggers out there exclaiming that this LP is one of the best indie -psych Lp's ever self-produced. I chatted to two of the members over the years and picked their brains about it and now two of them are gone! A bit of indie psych rock history here! SUPER SUPER RARE in ORIGINAL SEALED CODITION. The shrink wrap has come off the bottom right corner a little exposing the cover to the elements in that area only causing very slight discolor and very slight wear to the corner and I took a closeup of that, the only area of the cover to feature any wear. Good luck bidding on this piece of history and thanks for coming by. I hope you enjoyed reading my little slice of local folklore of the days when the long-haired humanoids walked the planet and the art that this LP represents. From the great cover to the amazing songs, it stands the test of time and is among the holy grails of STL related garage bands and collectors the world over. Good Luck and happy bidding! TO BE CLEAR, this is an ORIGINAL  and not in any way a reissue, pressed in 1968 in numbers of 1000 (as told to me by STIX the drummer).
I archived a few tracks from these guys and the previous entity, The Unknowns for my listening and others who want to hear these tracks, as they are getting VERY tough to find!
Here is the band known as the Unknowns some few months before they changed the name to Spur on a rare 1967 stereo single pressed locally, also on the Cinema label:

And here is the track that KSHE played until they got in trouble from the FCC! :o)
